After Wednesday’s ride, I thought the week was all but over. Come Friday, I decided to put in a few more workouts. My esteem for recom notwithstanding, the week just didn’t feel like it. On Friday, I ran 16k at a decent pace. Afterwards, I started to bake a cake for my son, who had helped in the garden
and was about to celebrate his birthday.
The party was held at the jump inn, so I could relax and mentally prepare for another TT ride. I even had time to mount the racing wheels, a fine set of Xentis Mark 1 TT clincher. And a good idea that was! For one thing, the sound of these wheels comes dangerously close to substance abuse – I get faster just by hearing it! And secondly, they definitely do handle differently in a sidewind – with just four weeks to the opening race of the season, I had better get used to it.
Today, I went MTBing with Christian, a nice quiet 90min ride, followed by a longish mechanic session. I changed the Alberts and replaced them with Racing Ralphs for the dry season. On the second wheelset, I took off the Ice Spiker Pros and put on the Nightwings, for trips to the icecream parlour – ice and snow will not stop me, not even in summer!
